My Territory - A Video DJ Workshop

A Mobile Phone Video Workshop by Vital Regeneration for The Hayward Gallery

The Hayward Gallery has commissioned Vital Regeneration to run three mobile phone video making projects with groups of young people between the ages of 13-19 in Lambeth between January and March 2007.

Capitalising on the new video shooting and editing capability of the latest generation of mobile phones the project will introduce young people to filmmaking. They will be creating short films in tribute to local places through character acting, song, dance and original music. Inspiration will come from the places where they go to meet, have fun, think, or watch the world go by.

Each young person will think around their relationship to their area & then write, direct and edit a short ‘advert’ using themselves and their friends. Each workshop will create 5-8 films between 1 – 10 minutes long, which the young people can then share using Bluetooth. The energy, originality and authenticity of the films along with the FreqOUT!, Hayward Gallery and mobile phone brands will be quickly distributed to a wider community through viral marketing.

The workshops will be lead by experienced educator and mobile phone video artist Melissa Bliss whose 1minute film e-state made in with young people on a housing estate in Hackney won the 2005 Big Issue One Minute Video prize. Melissa’s work can currently be seen in New York as part of the 'Peter Stuyvesant's Ghost' Civic Art project (http://cityinasoundwalk.org/psg/index.php).

Lambeth Dreaming

Lambeth Dreaming:

Filmmaker, Nick Dossetor, will be working with photographer Jack Goffe and local community groups to make short films based on their dreams, whether these be their hopes, fears, visions, undercurrents from their subconscious or flights of fancy, each group will work to produce films covering a variety of genres. Each film will last approximately 1 minute and will be combined to produce a uniquely personal glimpse through a cross section of the vibrant borough of Lambeth.

The film will be screened at the Hayward in March 2007 and will also be available to download from our video archive

Workshops are FREE to community groups based in Lambeth and can be arranged to suit the needs of your group. To find out more or to arrange a meeting with Nick please e-mail us at digital.dialogues@googlemail.com

Christmas Dialogues at the Hayward

Every year we say that we are going to make our own Christmas cards and add a personal touch to the festive season and each year there seems to be that last minute rush to the corner shop to buy whatever cards may be left over.

With digital technology it is easy to make your own, personal card or even your own animated e-card. Join us at the Hayward Gallery on Saturday 9 December for a mince pie and to design your own Christmas card in Photoshop or to make an animated Christmas e-card in Flash.

If you want to find out more about Digital Dialogues and how you can get involved you can also talk to project manager, Paul Green, about the opportunities this project can provide for individuals or community groups in Lambeth to get involved in free digital arts workshops.
